Infrared motion sensors,[1] also known as thermal sensors,[2] and commonly referred to as night scopes, were sensor devices designed to detect sources of heat and motion in near or total darkness. These sensors were used in conjunction with readout screens to display visual data for the user.[1]
Infrared motion sensors were commonly used by scout big game hunters and soldiers, though many were also favored by mercenaries and bounty hunters. The Ubese were known to integrate infrared sensors into their battle helmets, and Boba Fett incorporated such a device into his Mandalorian battle armor. Smaller versions could be fitted into one-piece monocles and placed over a user's eye. The Wookiee bounty hunter Snoova was known to use such a device.[1]
