@LordRyus You make good points:
1) Yeah... if the Original Canon's Imperial Palace outright appears in the films then there is very little we can do to dispute that point except pointing out that the Imperial Palace as the Temple is a retcon by the New Canon.
2) I do, however, see no problem with Palpatine establishing himself in a light sided nexus, mostly because he can just saturate the place with dark side energy and there is no Jedi around to stop him from doing just that.
3) I didn't know the Mountain part. However I do have to agree with Jacktheflash3008 in that the place is still huge, so I'm not sure if it would dissuade Palpatine from settling there.
4) Completely agree that the Sith Shrine loses it's validity in this conversation as it is purely an addition from the New Canon.
5) Hilarious to think of Palps trying (and failing) to fit his Throne Room into the central spire.
6) You make a very good final point about Palpatine overlooking the Temple dwarfed by his huge Imperial Palace. That's totally in line with what he would do.
Honestly, while the Jedi Temple being turned into the Imperial Palace is still something that doesn't really bother me and that I like in concept, your evidence has convinced me that the old Expanded Universe's version of the Imperial Palace did make more sense.
@Lord Maaar Honestly I debated for myself which was better for a long time because I've been lightly planning out my own fanfic, which uses both continuities to introduce Canon only fans to Legends content far better than I feel Canon has (and while I'm at it, might as well fix some bad things Legends did too). However this meant I had to obviously not solely use Legends material but had to include a lot of favorite bits from both (things like Kyber crystals bleeding and all the major Sequel characters would eventually show up, plus obviously Ahsoka, Rebels, Mandalorian, etc). So Canon fans would want to read it.
Obviously when I got to the Imperial Palace bit I had to do a lot of research and thinking on the matter. It honestly confounded me which to use. My solution atm is Palpatine originally thinking to turning it into his palace but running into lots of limitations with it.
So instead only using it as a kinda temporary Palace as he drew up plans for a massive new one which would overlook the old Temple and completely dwarf it. Part of the Palace would be where the RotJ special editions Coruscant scene was located.
The Temple would be converted into its massive propaganda museum from Legends that would demonize the Jedi Order and Republic. This is of course after the Inquisitors (Grand Inquisitor hunting down Jedi but Jerec hunting down artifacts) and Vader have removed its archives and such, to hunt down things Palpatine could want.
I felt this also would serve Luke's story best as he tried to restore the order but always had to look out from its windows at Palpatine's Imperial Palace. It would also serve Mara Jade, whom I'd obviously include, as she finally got to share that view Luke had and it would dawn on her how Palpatine was viewed by the people and cause her a lot of reflection of her past.
So best of both world approach in the Imperial Palace angle.
^Shoot, where can I read that if you don’t mind me asking?
I like the Jedi Temple
@LordRyus That's a very cool thing to do! It is a monumental task to marry both Legends and Canon together, though by no means impossible.
That explains your deep insight about the Jedi Temple. Again, it's very funny to me the thought of Palpatine being frustrated with not being able to fit his Throne Room in the central spire and having to make do with a simple office. Your solution to this problem seems well thought out, and also it could be because the Emperor would possibly want to personally oversee the retrieval of Jedi (and Sith) artifacts within the Temple Archives.
As a side note, it also intrigues me how you would write the Inquisitorious reconciling Legends and Canon, as Jerec is clearly far more powerful than the Pau'an Grand Inquisitor, but the Miraluka would still technically be the GI's subordinate within the Inquisitorious. Also, really liked the thing about Luke and Mara Jade having to bear the look of the Emperor's Palace from the Temple. It's in some ways the inverse of what Palpatine has been doing all those years while sitting in his Palace looking down at the Temple.
This is something I would be interested in reading.

Mind elaborating why? I always see you comment but I’d love to know your reasonings, if you don’t mind me asking.
@Diamond O'Connel Haven't written it yet, thus far it's solely in my head.
It's kinda a mixture of several concepts. Like what if Timothy Zahn was aware of what happened in the Prequels and TCW when he did the original Thrawn trilogy, but then that merged with trying to teaching Canon only fans Legends content while also using enough Canon content that they want to read it. Also a fixing wasted opportunities Legends had or doing better than what it did. Plus blending in ideas that where mentioned in Lucas's planned Underworld tv series, though obviously that stuff isn't public so I can only run off of rough concepts.
The other idea I've been debating blending in, is that both Legends and Canon are two sets of force visions the Force Priestesses gave to Luke after Endor. Basically teases of the endless possible futures they see that his mortal self can't truly grasp just yet, being as they are part of the cosmic force and he limited to the living force. The concept being both timelines had lots of shared elements, like Luke's Academy getting attacked, trying to convert Leia's son to the darkside and Palpatine returning... but what if they weren't literal possible futures but metaphorical ones (hence why both will exist here, sometimes favoring one continuity or the other but other times both). They're not exactly there to warn Luke of Snoke or Abeloth but prepare him how to react properly when the future always in motion will arrive... and maybe a few clues that could materialize so he won't drop his guard like so many others in the past did out of arrogance.
It would also explain characters acting out of character in Legends and Canon. There to warn Luke of character flaws. Like Jacen and Ben Solo shouldn't fall but here is how they could... or if you mess up, Maybe Rey could do a rebound. And Mara should be a Jedi but getting her to become one will be tricky and her attachments could bit her in the butt, but if you do help her overcome this she could be a great Jedi. Same with Erza, Ahsoka, Grogu, Cilghal, Kyp, Tionne, Kam, etc (been debating Quinlan Vos and Cal Kestes too)
Ironically that plotline of both continuities being visions I did think up because of the Palace. Basically Luke not knowing which version was true since he saw both in visions, and basically living two lifetimes worth of visions would be a bit confused and unable to process both visions and his school education simultaneously. So we get a bit of the naive farmboy back
Anyways as you can see, it's vast in scope and would basically cover from 19 BBY with references to the Old Republic, to about 40 ABY (but while incorporating some Denningverse characters and Sequel characters more going in a blending of Timothy Zahn ideas for the Unknown regions and some ideas from Lucas's outlines).
^ Dang dude, so does this mean we finally get to see Rey Skywalker fight Darth Caedus? Best of both worlds. My soul is ready…😂
On the real, I’d love to see whatever stories you put out. I’d love an optimal Canon/Legends blend. Glad my thread sparked some creative juices flowing on your part.
^^Sounds very interesting but quite an ambitious undertaking.
Damn but I do love the quality discussion that this spread sparked off.
What do you think?
