Poe and Leia had a bit of mother/son relationship. Maybe after Ben turned to the dark side Leia started seeing Poe as a son figure since he had a lot in common with Han and that's why she liked him so much.

Both their actors wanted them to be a couple, and they even implied possible romance between the two throughout the sequel trilogy, and I'm pretty sure oscar isaac (poes actor) did at some point confirm that poe was in love with finn or something along those lines, also are things confirmed by actors about their characters not considered canon unless/until confirmed by someone else higher up?
Sorry if this was confusing

Think about it, the Martez sisters were spice runners and smugglers, and got mixed up with a lot of people. Well why does Poe's last name not Martez? Simple, Trace had a daughter and when the daughter married a Dameron which changed her name. He could also be a descendant of Rafa but more likely Trace.
🚨WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS 🚨
Last night, something incredible happened to me. While walking back home, I went past my local cinema and saw that they were having a limited screening of a brand new movie from the Star Wars universe. You can imagine how excited I was... However, my excitement was destined to grow considerably as I entered the lobby and was approached by a publicist who informed me that the film I was about to see was not just any new Star Wars movie... But the next episode in the main film series (Episode X). Naturally, I nearly passed out 😅
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I saw the movie (which was as totally bonkers as it was totally amazing!) and went home but the story didn't end there... The publicist had taken most of my personal info for security reasons and at about 11:30PM, I get woken up by a telephone call from none other than the President of Lucasfilm: Kathleen Kennedy. Again, I nearly passed out. Kennedy thanks me for attending the premiere and asks me to help Disney garner publicity for the film but writing up a free online review, complete with photos of the cast and a plot outline. Naturally, I took the job (I mean: "Who wouldn't?"). This morning, I got straight down to work and here are the fruits of all my labours...
Presenting the latest instalment in the Star Wars odyssey:
STAR WARS EPISODE X: KNIGHTS OF THE DUNE SEA
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
Timothée Chalamet as BEN SKYWALKER
Gifted with Force visions (owing to the sensitivity he inherits from his mother) of a mysterious "Tusken girl", Ben Skywalker (named after and modelled on the late Ben Solo) is the son of Poe and Rey (in keeping with Colin Trevorrow's original concepts for the Episode IX script) and lives with his parents on the ocean world of Aach-To. Loyal and brave but fiercely ambitious, Ben longs for the Dune Sea that will grant his family riches and the Tusken clans that will unravel the mysteries behind his visions...
Oscar Isaac as POE DAMERON
Josh Brolin as JOAB LARS
Since the conclusion of the war with the First Order and the restoration of the Republic, rebel war hero Poe Dameron has been appointed "Grand Admiral" of the new Battle Fleet and Governor of the Outer Rim. In all truth, Dameron is less than thrilled with being granted the governorship of such a desolate region but relishes his unharnessed access to the spice mines of Tatooine and rules with the aid of his close friend and Captain of the Guard- Joab Lars- a distant descendant of the Tatooinian noble family...
Rebecca Ferguson as REY SKYWALKER
Cut off from the Jedi Order after the birth of her son, Rey remains capable of summoning the Force in the most powerful and often-devastating of ways but chooses not to embrace her old warrior teachings for the sake of her family...
Javier Bardem as "JUNDLAND"
Sharon Duncan-Brewster as JANNAH
Jason Momoa as BABA VOS
In the age of the Restored Republic, the characters who defend Tatooine from the outside world are just as colourful as those who seeks to exploit it. Since the discovery of spice on the hostile desert planet and an unspecified moment of "epiphany", the native Tuskens have uncovered their faces but maintain their nomadic lifestyle under the guidance of a mysterious warrior known only as "Jundland". Their harsh culture based around a knew type of ceremonial knife fighting is observed and studied by the likes of Baba Vos- young Ben's personal Jedi battlemaster and a distant cousin of Quinlan- and Jannah, who (since the end of the First-Order Resistance War and death of her lover, Finn) has devoted her entire life to the studying of Krayt Dragons...
Zendaya as "MARTEZ"
The lost daughter of a long-forgotten branch of the underworld spice trade, Martez came to Tatooine in an attempt to learn more about her origins and begin the Tusken "vision quest" that will connect her to Ben Skywalker and unlock her gift of Force-sensitivity...
Stellan Skarsgard as ROTTA THE HUTT
The long-lost son of untouchable crime lord, Jabba the Hutt, Rotta has returned to Tatooine to reclaim his father's lost kingdom and corner the spice trade with the help of the Pyke Syndicate. Since the Clone Wars, Rotta has acquired the ability to walk through the use of cybernetic implants but is forced to take near-constant oil baths to keep from drying out in the brutal Tatooine sun...
Dave Bautista as DRAKSS ROTTA
Engineered through an unholy cloned combination of human, Hutt, Trandoshan and even Umbaran DNA, Drakss Rotta is Baron Rotta's psychopathic "nephew" and the Pyke Syndicate's ruthless top enforcer. Through persecuting the Tuskens with his Umbaran death squad, Drakss hopes to bring about the destruction of Grand Admiral Dameron and the subjugation of the Outer Rim...
PLOT OUTLINE:
Since the destruction of the Sith Eternal, both the galaxy and the Republic have undergone something of a rebirth. Galactic culture strives to recapture the lost glory of the High Republic Era while the powerful narcotic known simply as "spice" has been legalised by the Senate for any Exegol veterans (who take the drug in order to relieve the symptoms of extreme PTSD that they sustained during the battle). Craving the order that Palpatine brought, the Republic itself has become a constitutional monarchy, ruled over by a series of clones, though many are weary of the new Emperor's- Pestage IV- attempts to dominate the Outer Rim. The Jedi Order has become a reclusive cult since the time of Luke Skywalker and galactic society has become increasingly militaristic after the traumas of Yavin and Hosnian Prime...
Twenty years after the Battle of Exegol, Grand Admiral Poe Dameron- Governor of Ahch-To- is granted the governorship over the entire Outer Rim by the emperor and assigned as an overseer to the recently-discovered spice mines on Tatooine. Poe is delighted with his new post as master of Tatooine but his wine- Grandmaster Rey Skywalker- receives sinister premonitions warning her husband about the Emperor's involvement with Rotta the Hutt's cartel. Ignoring his wife's advice after brokering an alliance with the Tuskens, Poe moves his family to Tatooine and assumes governorship of the planet...
Throughout such upheaval, the Grand Admiral's son- Ben- experiences troubling visions linked to both the Tuskens and Tatooine. Nevertheless, he prepares to take on his hereditary role as the next governor of Tatooine, drilled in combat and protocol by Baba Vos and Joab Lars and schooled in the ways of the Force by his Jedi mother... Upon arriving at a reconstructed Hutt Palace, Poe brokers an alliance with the Tusken chieftain- Jundland- who honours Rey and Ben for their Jedi powers and introduces them to former friend and Tusken planetologist: Jannah...
During their time on Tatooine, Ben's premonitions continue to grow more and more sinister and after a assassin droid fails to kill the young heir, Rotta launches a full-frontal assault on Tatooine. The Damerons hold firm but are suddenly betrayed a member of the Grand Admiral's science team- Dr. Tico- who betrays the family to save his daughter, Rose (a prisoner of the Hutt Clan). However, crippled by guilt, Tico secretly betrays the Hutts and places a cylinder of the notorious Blue Shadow Virus inside Poe's teeth. As his fortress falls and his family is taken prisoner, Poe releases the virus, killing himself and many of Rotta's servants. However, the Hutt survives the attack and leaves Rey and Ben to die in the Dune Sea...
Using the Force to overpower her captors and certain supplies given to her by Dr. Tico, Rey and son cross the Dune Sea at night. As they draw nearer to the spice mines, Ben has further visions of the Tusken girl- Martez- and of a bloody "holy war" engulfing the galaxy in the Skywalker name...
Meanwhile, Rotta gives the governorship of Tatooine over to his mercurial nephew- Drakss- and orders him to increase the planet's exportation of spice to help rebuild the Hutt Empire...
Ben and his mother are found by Jannah and Baba Vos and Skywalker reveals his plan to marry one of Emperor Pestage's daughters to avert a new galactic civil war. However, the party is discovered by a rogue band of Izvoshra working for Rotta. Vos sacrifices himself in a violent battle with Kyuzo petars while a mortally-wounded Jannah summons a Krayt Dragon that devours the rest of the Kaleesh. Rey and Ben make their escape and rendezvous with Jundland tribe. Ben finally meets Martez- the girl from his dreams- and passes the ancient Tusken initiation ceremony of "trial by combat". Winning the duel, he joins the Tusken tribe and pledges to bring peace to Tatooine as the sole surviving heir of House Dameron...
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed the review and I can't wait for you guys to see the film! God bless and may the Force be with you ✌️😎
(P.S.) And also... HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY, y'all 😉
I feel like there should be a show in development that in the setting of the sequels. We don’t have to get Rey and Kylo’s characters but just some serious that were doing things across the galaxy at that time that way it’ll help the sequels not look as bad as they already are. A buffer just like the clone wars show did for the prequel era.
Name a more iconic duo.
