The Origin Tree is growing! Our third branch so far is all about how we should identify posts. This will affect the entire forum, so be sure to let your voice be heard!
For those of you who don’t know what the Origin Tree is, click that link above! The first part of our Forum Improvement Month initiative, the post acts as a suggestion thread for all members of the community to voice their ideas about how to improve the forum.
Now, this post will be a bit more loose than the others. Basically, we want feedback on how posts on the feed should be identified in their titles.
Our current system, created by @Givinname quite some time ago, is bracketed tags. We’ve been using these for a while already, and it has greatly improved organization of the forum.
Tags like [Analysis], [Debate], and [Question] all help users easily know what kind of post is in store.
Here’s where the new stuff comes in. Also thought up by Giv is to use emojis in the titles as well, while also getting rid of those that would be present in a post (e.g. a “⭐️” would be added to the title of a Featured post, with the “⭐️ FEATURED” tag being removed).
These would serve the same purpose as the tags, but in a much more prominent and eye-catching way. Such tags could include 📚 for book reviews, 📝 for essays, ❓for simple questions, etc.
The bracket tags will be staying no matter what. What we want to determine is how emojis could fit into all of this, finding the best way to display post titles.
After this is done, we also need to create a guide post for the subject. Similar to the category guide, this post would explain the system and list what tags we use and what they mean.
So what does everyone think? Should we begin using emojis? If so, which ones, and how? What tags will we need to create? Only you can decide!
