@Ben $olo what your thoughts really opened me up to you was something I always had a hard time with when I watched ROTJ which was how Darth Vader just ate or seemed to eat emperor palpatine's Force lightning attacks. The quote "the power of the dark side does not debilitate the practitioner as much as it debilitates those who lack it." So when palpatine hit Darth Vader with him since he was a part of the dark side it makes sense that it wouldn't hurt him as much and since Luke was all good he wouldn't be able to take it at all.
