Horton Salm oli miespuolinen ihminen, joka oli kotoisin Norval II:lta Calaronin sektorita Ulkokehän alueelta. Hän oli osallisena sekä Kapinaliiton että sitä seuranneen Uuden tasavallan sotilasjoukoissa. Hän oli taitava pilotti, johtaja ja kouluttaja, jonka lempialuksia olivat Koensayr Manufacturingin Y-siipiset tähtihävittäjät. Hänen mielestään ne olivat vanhempina aluksina luotettavampia eivätkä yhtä herkkiä hajoamaan kuin uudemmat mallit. Endorin taistelussa Salm johti Harmaata lentuetta ja selviytyi hyökkäyksestä toisen Kuolemantähden rakenteisiin.
