Star Wars Armada is een tactisch spel met miniaturen, waarbij spelers met schepen tegen elkaar vechten. In tegenstelling tot het X-Wing Miniatures Game gaat het bij dit spel om de grote schepen, zoals Star Destroyers. Het spel zal gebruik maken van een "glijdende schaal", wat betekend dat de grotere schepen wel relatief groter zullen zijn, maar niet volledig op schaal. Het spel draait om de grote ruimtegevechten tussen de Rebel Alliance en het Galactic Empire.
