Yıldızlar; kendi ışıkları ve enerjilerini üreten devasa, parlak, plazma ve gaz küreleriydi. Bir sistemin merkezi olan yıldızlar, güneş olarak da adlandırılıyordu.

Açıklama

Yıldızlar; ısı, ışık ve radyasyon üreten, yanan plazma ve gaz kütlesinden oluşan dev göksel cisimlerdi. Direniş üyesi Karé Kun bir keresinde yıldızları "patlayan büyük gaz topları" şeklinde tanımlamıştı. Yıldızlar kırmızı cüce, kahverengi cüce, sarı cüce, kırmızı dev, mavi-beyaz yıldız ve mavi cüce gibi birçok boyut ve türden oluşuyordu. Yüksek Cumhuriyet Devri zamanında yıldızlar kimyasal özelliklerine göre sınıflandırılıyordu. Örneğin, R-sınıfı bir yıldız nadiren nitrojen bakımından zengindi.

Yıldız doğuşu

Yıldızlar uzayın yıldız yuvası olarak da bilinen alanlarda enerjilerin basınç ve ısı yoluyla çarpışmasıyla etrafındaki alanı şekillendiren ve milyonlarca kilometre uzaktan görülebilen bir süreçti. Bir gezegenin çekirdeğinin bir dış güç tarafından tutuşturulmasıyla da bir yıldız oluşuyordu. Çoğu yıldız başka gezegenler ve cisimlerin yörüngesindeydi. Bu durumda yıldızlar, güneş olarak tanımlanıyordu. Bir güneş ona bağlı olan cisimlerle beraber, gezegenler sistemini oluşturuyordu. Bazı durumlarda bir gezegenler sistemi tıpkı Tatooine ve Mon Kala'nın etrafındaki gezegenler gibi birden fazla güneşe sahipti.

Bir gezegen bir yıldız etrafında dönerken özel durumlar dışında doğal olarak ışık ve ısı alıyordu. "Gölge Gezegen" olarak bilinen Umbara'nın güneşinin ışıkları asla yüzeyine tam olarak ulaşmıyor ve onu ebedi karanlığa bırakıyordu. Gece göğünde uzak yıldızlar ışık noktacıkları gibi görünürdü. Gelenek gereği bu noktacıklar takımyıldızları olarak gruplandırılmıştı. Yıldızsız birçok gezegen ölü ve donmuş oluyordu. Güneşin boyutu ve uzaklığı yörüngesinde bir gezegenin birçok özelliğini etkiliyordu.
