"(That Joyous Night) I Ate My Mate" was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, which was released in 2015.[2] The song was first mentioned in the Star Wars Legends article "Who's Who in the Max Rebo Band," which was written by Rich Handley and published in Star Wars Insider's sixty-seventh issue[3] on April 15, 2003.[4]
