The 327th Star Corps, known simply as the Star Corps, was an elite corps of infantry clone troopers that served under Clone Marshal Commander Bly and Jedi General Aayla Secura during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Falling under the 2nd Sector Army in the Grand Army of the Republic's Order of Battle, the 327th Star Corps' clone troopers were known as the Republic's foremost jet troopers.

The 327th Star Corps was stationed in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy during the Clone Wars, participating in key battles such as the First Battle of Geonosis, the Siege of Saleucami, and the Battle of Felucia—where the corps executed their Jedi General following the activation of Order 66 by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. In the wake of the Galactic Empire's rise to power, the 327th Star Corps continued to serve under Marshal Commander Bly in the new Imperial regime, as a corps in the Imperial Military.

Description[]

Organization[]

CmdrBly-TROSPromoYT

Assigned to Jedi General Aayla Secura, the 327th Star Corps was commanded by Clone Marshal Commander Bly.

The 327th Star Corps,[3] also known simply as the Star Corps,[20] was a Grand Army of the Republic corps[3] of infantry[1] clone troopers that served in the 2nd Sector Army under the command of Clone Marshal Commander Bly and assigned to Jedi General Aayla Secura following the Battle of Hypori.[3]

Comprised of 36,864 clone troopers, with most being trained as clone jet troopers,[3] along with support personnel,[7] the 327th Star Corps was divided into four legions, including the 7th Legion—which itself included the 101st Regiment, Hawkbat Battalion, K Company, Bacta Company, 2nd Platoon, and Talon Squad.[3] The 327th Star Corps' ranks also included at least one squad of Biker Advanced Recon Commandos.[6]

The 327th Star Corps had several staff officers among its ranks, including Senior Clone Commander A'den—leader of the 7th Legion, Jedi Commander Danyawarra—leader of the 101st Regiment, Clone Major Twelve—leader of Hawkbat Battalion, Clone Captain Tyto—leader of Bacta Company, Clone Captain Deviss—leader of K Company, Clone Lieutenant Barr—leader of the 2nd Platoon,[3] Clone Lieutenant Inc, and Clone Lieutenant Galle.[4] Several non-commissioned troopers also fought for the 327th, including Clone Sergeant Greensquad leader of Talon Squad,[3] and troopers Lucky and Flash.[21]

Role[]

The 327th Star Corps operated out of the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy during the Clone Wars.[11] Having been constantly reassigned to different planets throughout the course of the war, never staying in one place for more than a week, the 327th earned its "Star Corps" designation as the corps never had the chance to see the Galactic Republic's capital, the Core Worlds planet Coruscant, due to being forced to stay in the Outer Rim for most of the war.[3]

Equipment[]

Towards the beginning of the Clone Wars, the clone troopers of the 327th Star Corps wore standard Phase I clone trooper armor, which was either worn standard-issue[21] or painted with yellow stripes along the armor's helmet and arm plates.[1] Following the introduction of Phase II clone trooper armor, the 327th's clone troopers transitioned to using the armor, painted with yellow stripes along the armor's helmet, arm plates, and chestpiece, with smaller stripes on the armor's utility belt, knee plates, and foot plates.[8]

The 327th Star Corps' clone troopers were distinguishable by the yellow stripes on their armor.

Due to Marshal Commander Bly's ARC training, the 327th's clone troopers were allowed to don pauldrons and kamas,[3] with some troopers choosing to wear both attachments, one without the other, or none at all with their Phase II armor.[22] The 327th's troopers could also equip their armor with macrobinoculars,[21] rangefinders,[23] miniature helmet-mounted flashlights, backpacks,[21] bicep-strapped ammunition pouches, and pistol holsters.[8]

During the war, the 327th's clone troopers wielded different weapons, including DC-15A blaster rifles, DC-15S blaster carbines, single or dual DC-17 hand blasters,[8] and missile launchers.[24] The 327th's jet troopers were equipped with JT-12 jetpacks.[17]

While the 327th Star Corps was an infantry unit, it made use of ground vehicles during the Clone Wars. These vehicles included All Terrain Attack Pods, All Terrain Open Transports,[8] All Terrain Tactical Enforcers with yellow markings,[9] BARC speeders,[4] and Infantry Support Platforms.[8] While operating on the planet Felucia, some of the 327th's troopers rode gelagrubs, larva-like beetles native to the planet, as mounts to avoid vehicle scanners.[10]

Skills and training[]

Founded around 22 BBY[25] to fight in the First Battle of Geonosis,[11] the 327th Star Corps's troopers were trained to fight in hostile, foreign environments, and quickly learned to seize every advantage and act on every opportunity, no matter how small,[23] becoming valiant and loyal soldiers.[26] During the war, the 327th Star Corps' troopers became the Grand Army's foremost jet troopers.[3]

Early engagements[]

The 327th Star Corps was deployed for the first time at the First Battle of Geonosis and remained active all the way to the last days of the Clone Wars. Jedi General Aayla Secura was assigned to the Corps after her mission to Hypori, which took place four months into the war. Due to his ARC training, Clone Marshal Commander Bly had misgivings about Secura's Jedi way of doing things, but over time he came to understand her strategies, and the two forged a close relationship.[3]

Under General Secura[]

Under the control of General Aayla Secura and Commander Bly, the 327th served as the Republic's spearhead into the Outer Rim Territories in the later days of the Clone Wars. Their reputation was derived from the actions they engaged in on the Outer Rim, never seeing Coruscant and rarely stationed in one place for more than a week. The troopers of the 327th saw action on such diverse worlds as New Holstice, Honoghr, Anzat and Dromund Kaas.[3] They also fought in the Battle of Christophsis and suffered great casualties during the Sky Battle of Quell. The latter engagement saw the complete destruction of an armada of three Venator-class Star Destroyers, including the Liberty; Secura and Bly only survived the engagement due to the intervention of Anakin Skywalker and the Resolute.[18]

Outer Rim Sieges[]

Members of the 327th Star Corps prepare themselves to execute Order 66.

The corps was deployed in full force during the Republic's five-month siege of Saleucami, which pitted the Jedi and their clone troopers against a massive Morgukai clone army. After the CIS forces were crushed, the 327th were deployed to the Commerce Guild purse world Felucia in an attempt to capture Presidente Shu Mai. Arriving aboard the Venator-class Star Destroyer Intrepid, the initial days of the assault saw a string of success for Bly and his troops, despite the fact that Shu Mai managed to elude capture.[4]

As the 327th pushed through the planet's southern hemisphere, Bly received Order 66 via a top-secret channel, branding the entire Jedi Order as traitors against the freshly-christened Galactic Empire. When Aayla was distracted, Bly and his lieutenants poured blaster fire into their Jedi General, ensuring Secura's death with multiple shots to the body and head.[8] Troopers of the 501st, who had served with Secura on Felucia prior to the 327th, privately commiserated the general's death, with one stating that she had at least earned a quick death.[27] The 327th continued to faithfully serve the Empire after its creation.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

The 327th Star Corps first appeared, albeit unnamed, in the 65th issue of the Star Wars: Republic line of Dark Horse comic books, written by John Ostrander and published on June 2, 2004.[28] The corps was later fully identified in "Guide to the Grand Army of the Republic," an eight-page reference article written by Karen Traviss and Ryan Kaufman for the 84th issue of Star Wars Insider,[3] published by IDG Entertainment on September 26, 2005.[29] The corps was originally created for Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, a 2005 film written and directed by George Lucas.[30]
