"I heard things about that unit. Some kind of supermen is what I heard."
―Imperial trooper aboard the Valor[1]

The Four Hundred and Third, often referred to as the Four Hundred Third, was a military unit of the reconstituted Sith Empire's army during and after the Great Galactic War.[1]

The 403rd enjoyed an impressive reputation in the Empire, so much that a naval officer such as Commander Jard of the Valor recognized the designation immediately, and the mention of their name impressed a squad of Imperial Army troopers.[1]

The 403rd, or at least its component Company E, was associated with the Imperial sniper corps.[1] The assassin Vrath Xizor claimed to have once been a sniper from Company E of the 403rd, serving detached as a marksman with other units.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The 403rd is only referred to in the novel The Old Republic: Deceived, where its name is always given longform as "Four Hundred and Third" or "Four Hundred Third". The numerical form 403rd is never used, and is thus not strictly canon.

Presumably, the designation is an abbreviated one, but no longer title for the unit is stated in the novel, and it is unknown whether they are a large formation such as a division or a smaller one like a battalion. Similarly although Vrath Xizor claims to be a veteran of both the 403rd and the Imperial sniper corps, the exact relationship between the two designations is not explained.
