The 481st Legion was a legion of the Grand Army of the Republic that was active at the end of the Clone Wars during the implementation of Order 66,[1] a secret order that forced clone troopers to execute their Jedi comrades, in 19 BBY.[2] As part of Order 66, elements of the 481st Legion were dispatched to the planet Ilum to secure the Jedi Temple there and eliminate any Jedi survivors from the initial onslaught.[1]
Once the Galactic Republic transitioned into the Galactic Empire and Emperor Palpatine had firm control of the Empire, the 481st Legion was rotated out and recalled to their home unit. The legion was subsequently replaced by a joint Imperial Army garrison and an Imperial Navy battle group that acted as a blockade.[1]
