5-Minute Star Wars Stories was first revealed in an official book listing published by Disney–Lucasfilm Press on the publishing industry repository Edelweiss+. In the listing, the publisher revealed that the title would follow the format of the 2015 collection of the same name, but would feature all-new stories from the Star Wars saga. The book was listed as due for release on November 3, 2020.[1]

On September 10, 2020, StarWars.com revealed the upcoming slate for that year's Star Wars Reads, an annual event fostering reading in children and Star Wars fans of all ages. In the announcement, StarWars.com released a poster and cover image for 5-Minute Star Wars Stories, revealing that the book would mimic the art style of the Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures animated micro series.[2]

Despite the official listing and announcement by StarWars.com, 5-Minute Star Wars Stories was never published and missed its designated November 3 release date. No new information about the title has been provided and the book's publisher has not officially confirmed the title's cancelation.
