"The 88th Armor battalion is on its way. The 301st Infantry is being rotated back to Coruscant."
―General Callan Grayne[src]

The 88th Armor was a battalion in the Republic Military that served during the early days of the Galactic War with the Sith Empire.[1] In 3642 BBY,[2] the 301st Infantry unit was rotated off of the embattled planet of Hoth after aiding the Jedi Knight known as the Hero of Tython in recovering the plans for the Sith Emperor's space station. While the 301st was sent back to the Republic capital of Coruscant, the 88th Armor was assigned to Hoth in their place by General Callan Grayne.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The 88th Armor was first mentioned in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, as the replacement for the 301st Infantry during the Jedi Knight mission "The Price of Victory."[1]

  2. SWTOR mini.png STAR WARS: The Old Republic - Question ! :) - Page 3 on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) places Star Wars: The Old Republic's base game content about ten to twelve years after the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant, which is dated to 3653 BBY by Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia. The Prologue and Act I of the class storylines are assumed to take place in 3643 BBY, as they are roughly concurrent to each other and the Jedi Knight Act I storyline is dated to 3643 BBY by The Old Republic—The Lost Suns 2. Additionally, SWTOR mini.png Forums: Dear Story Team, What Year Are We Currently In? on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) and Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia establish that the Battle of Ilum and the end of Act III for the class stories occur in 3640 BBY. Additionally, Act II for all classes, while featuring conflict between the two factions, occurs prior to the official collapse of the Treaty of Coruscant, which The Old Republic: Annihilation places in the middle of 3641 BBY. Taken together, this means that base game content spans from 3643 BBY to 3640 BBY, and the class storylines extend over this period, this article assumes that Act II takes place within 3642 BBY and the first half of 3641 BBY.
