Accipipteros were a type of large, birdlike reptavians native to the planet of Dagobah. Flying predators, they were the uncontested rulers of the swamp world's jungle canopies, where they spent their entire lives in the branches of gnarltrees. Their prey consisted of bogwings and any other creature that climbed or flew to the top of the treetop canopy or beyond.[2]
Brown in color, accipipteros had a long tail, two legs ending in clawed feet, and two wings with three claw-like fingers each.[1] They used these small clawed hands to maneuver prey into their mouths after snaring the creatures with their hooked lower jaw. The prey would then be consumed alive.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, accipipteros were first mentioned in Nexus of Power, a Star Wars Roleplaying supplement released by Fantasy Flight Games for the Star Wars: Force and Destiny roleplaying game[2] on March 17, 2016.[3]
The creatures originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they first appeared in the forty-first issue of Marvel Comics original Star Wars comic book series, which was written by Archie Goodwin, illustrated by Al Williamson and Carlos Garzón.[4]
