Acid Stream Launchers were a type of kinetic-based heavy weapon commonly used by commandos during the time of the Galactic Civil War which projected a high-velocity stream of acid. They were available in a couple different designs, including a rifle-like configuration, and a more tubular, over the shoulder firing design. Another variant was the Devastator Acid Launcher.
The Acid Stream Launcher was a large type of heavy weapon which projected a high-velocity stream of acid. The weapon was composed of various materials, including units of steel, iron, polymer, crystalline gemstones, and carbonate ore. It also comprised of a number of different components, including a blaster rifle barrel and a heavy weapon core. Optional components included an advance weapon scope and stock. Another variant of the weapon utilized a tubular, over the shoulder design, opposed to the more rifle-like version. A similar variant of the Acid Stream Launcher was the Devastator Acid Launcher. Although similar in appearance, the Devastator Acid Launcher was considered an energy-based chemical weapon rather than a kinetic-based weapon.
The weapon saw use during the time of the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and Alliance to Restore the Republic, following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. Commonly used by commandos, schematics of the Acid Stream Launcher were available to independent weaponsmiths and munitions traders.
Behind the scenesEdit
The Acid Stream Launcher was included as a heavy weapon in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011. In the game, the weapon could be crafted by weaponsmiths for primary use by players of the commando profession. The weapon was a tubular, over the shoulder design with a limited number of firing uses. Following the release of Publish 25's New Game Enhancements on November 15, 2005, weaponsmiths were removed, however the weapon could still be constructed by players of the newly created munitions trader profession. Although the weapon was still primarily catered to the newly revamped commando profession, the weapon's strict profession prerequisite was removed. The weapon was also redesigned by the time following the New Game Enhancements to be a free targeting ranged weapon with a more rifle-like appearance without any limit on its ammunition. The weapon could be constructed using a number of different components and resources, including steel, iron, polymer, crystalline gemstones, and carbonate ore. A couple Star Wars Galaxies reference guides feature the Acid Stream Launcher, including Star Wars Galaxies: The Total Experience: Prima Official Game Guide and Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Guide: Prima Official Game Guide (2005).
