Adam Driver (born November 19, 1983) is an Academy Award–nominated American actor who starred in the Sequel trilogy films Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker as the villainous Kylo Ren.[2][3][4]

Biography[]

Adam Driver's involvement in the Star Wars franchise was first announced on April 29, 2014 when he was named as a cast member for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.[5] In an interview for the Time, he revealed that J.J. Abrams advised him to look into Akira Kurosawa's movies for inspiration, much like George Lucas did before. However, after several viewings, Driver decided to take another path, a more personal approach for playing Kylo Ren.[6] For his performance in The Force Awakens as the antagonistic Kylo Ren, Driver was voted Best Villain at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.[7] In interviews, he has said that he tends to avoid watching his own performances.[8] Driver reprised his role as Kylo Ren in the Sequel trilogy films Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker (2019).[3][4]

Adam Driver was the focus of two Saturday Night Live sketches as Kilo Ren. First, disguised as Matt the Radar Technician, in the 2016 sketch "Undercover Boss: Starkiller Base",[9] and again, disguised as Randy the Intern, in its 2020 follow-up "Undercover Boss: Where Are They Now".[10]
