"An idealist named Adarian Tropis encouraged those disaffected by the corruption and inefficient bureaucracy to leave for the Outer Rim Territories, where they intended to establish self-sufficient enclaves where each member was directly represented in government."
―From a Brema News report on a Pinacism movement sweeping through Brema sector[2]

Adarian Tropis was a legislator from Salliche who found the colony on Varonat around 242 BBY.

Biography[]

Adarian Tropis was a legislator from Salliche who had grown tired of the corrupt government on the planet. Around 242 BBY, Tropis had gained a following of like-minded idealists, and they left Salliche to form a new colony where each member of the community had a voice in government. They choose the planet Varonat, as scouting reports had identified rich, fertile soil in the area known as the Great Jungle. The colonists established a settlement that would eventually become Tropis-on-Varonat. However, the soil's fertility lasted only a single season, and the native Morodin creatures constantly trampled crops and spread their secretions over the plants.[1]

Tropis theorized that the animals secretions were a natural fertilizer, and gave the Morodin free run of several fields for a season. However, the food grew to be yellow and inedible, and the settlers treated the Morodin as pests, chasing them away from the fields. Tropis eventually died on Varonat, and the colonists lost their idealism of a self-sufficient society and began to rely on off-world shipments.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Adarian Tropis was an idealistic individual who believed in the idea of a fully participatory democracy.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Adarian Tropis was mentioned in the supplementary RPG material that accompanied Timothy Zahn's First Contact, which was published in 1994's Star Wars Adventure Journal 1 by West End Games. The extra background material was written by Peter M. Schweighofer. Because Tropis only appeared in the supplementary information, the character was not mentioned when the story was reprinted in Tales from the Empire or on Hyperspace, as neither reproduced the RPG material that accompanied the original story.
