Albee Dewaw was the persona of an enormous hologram created to rule over the civilization on the planet Balnab. However, the figure was in fact being controlled by a group of DUM-series pit droids working from the wreckage of a crashed starship. Dewaw was capable of throwing lightning, which intimidated the members of the civilization.[1]
The holographic Dewaw was exposed when members of the group found the stranded droids R2-D2 and C-3PO and brought them back to the settlement. The two droids easily recognized Dewaw as a hologram, and R2-D2 found and entered the hidden room from which the pit droids controlled Dewaw, revealing the truth to the people the droids had controlled. Subsequently, when the residents rebelled against the pit droids, the settlement was destroyed in an explosion, although R2-D2 and C-3PO escaped.[1]
