Aldera was the capital city of the planet Alderaan, in the Core Worlds. A picturesque city surrounded by nature, it housed both the renowned University of Alderaan and the Royal Palace, the latter being the official home of the monarch of Alderaan and their family. During the Clone Wars, Aldera housed the Alderaan Refugee Conference. The capital was lost along with the rest of Alderaan in 0 BBY, when Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin ordered the Death Star to destroy the planet.
Description[]

Aldera was surrounded by mountains.
Located in a region of the planet Alderaan,[3] one of the so-called Core Worlds of the galaxy,[6] Aldera sat on a large island on a lake,[5] nestled by a range of snow-capped mountains,[7] one of which was the Appenza Peak. On the outskirts of Aldera were the River Wuitho and several smaller villages.[3] Some way outside the city was also a forest.[7]
A scenic city, Aldera featured a collection of gleaming, rounded, white structures that included the Royal Palace. It also housed a spaceport, which was considered one of the best in the Core Worlds,[5] the renowned University of Alderaan,[8] as well as many galleries and music halls.[9]

The avenues of Aldera were wide and lined with trees.
The city had wide, tree-lined avenues, and there with several little gardens plotted out along the way. In an effort to keep the view of the palace as intact as possible, traffic in the city center was mostly pedestrian, although air traffic did pick up as one got further from the palace, especially when heading towards the shipping platforms.[9]
History[]
Aldera and the oldest part of its Royal Palace were already in existence over a millennium before Leia Organa became Crown Princess, in the year 3 BBY.[3]
During the Clone Wars, a pan-galactic conflict fought between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, representatives from across the galaxy congregated in Aldera to attend conferences and engage in negotiations concerning multiple important issues.[5] One notable example was the Alderaan Refugee Conference, which was meant to address the growing number of refugees displaced by the war.[10]
After the Clone Wars ended and the Republic was replaced by the autocratic Galactic Empire, Alderaan emerged as a crucible of covert resistance against the new regime. The royal couple, Queen Breha Organa and Viceroy Bail Organa, organized secret reunions under the guise of dinner parties taking place in the Royal Palace,[3] effectively turning Aldera's most central building into a top-secret meeting place for rebel leaders and sympathizers.[5]
The capital city was lost—along with the rest of Alderaan—in 0 BBY,[1] when Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin of the Galactic Empire used the Death Star battlestation to destroy the planet.[2]
