"Alkhara died, but recently a group of people who were ousted from their homes by Sand People got together and reformed themselves into a group called Alkhara's bandits. Which would be fine if they'd just stick to fighting the Sand People."
Reelo Baruk, to a spacer[2]

The Alkhara Bandits, also referred to as the Alkharans, were a band of criminals based on Tatooine.

An Alkhara Bandit

"They have to keep supplied so they hit some of the outlying farms and merchants and such. Trouble is those people pay Jabba for protection. Jabba, in his infinite capacity for selfless behavior is now actually going to honor those contracts. You're going to make sure the Alkharans stop attacking the merchants"
―Reelo Baruk, to a spacer[2]

The Alkhara Bandits were formed after the death of their ideological leader, Alkhara,[1] sometime after 516 BBY.[3] Decades later, the group of thieves re-emerged under the leadership of several Tatooine residents who had been chased out of their homes by Sand People.[1]

The Alkhara Bandits were at constant war with the Tusken Raiders, but they would also attack villages and moisture farms in order to pillage for supplies.[2] After the Battle of Yavin, the Galactic Empire grew increasingly concerned about the expansion of the Alkhara Bandits. General Zaster of the Imperial Second Division sent an official notice to all Imperial personnel on Tatooine in order to reinforce patrols in the concerned areas.[4]

In 1 ABY,[5] Alkharan bandits raided people who were theoretically under the protection of Jabba Desilijic Tiure. The Hutt crime lord did not appreciate and wanted to teach the Bandits a lesson. Reelo Baruk then hired a spacer to kill ten Alkharan bandits.[2]

  5. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
