"Everything is in place and going smoothly…which means something somewhere is probably completely karked up."
―Alys Ongwa[5]

Alys "Crash" Ongwa was a human female Corellian who lived on Corellia during the High Republic Era. She grew up in the bodyguarding business, eventually coming to lead the Supreme Coronet City Diplomat Protection agency after inheriting the business from her mother, Baynoo Ongwa.[1] Following the Valo Atrocity,[3] Ongwa and her crew were tasked with protecting Chancellor Lina Soh of the Galactic Republic during a visit to Corellia.[5] At the time, Ongwa was sixteen years old, and was accompanied by the droid[3] 10-K8.[1] In the year following the Fall of Starlight Beacon, Ongwa and her crew traveled the galaxy to hunt down anyone involved in the Nihil's infiltration on Corellia.[6]

Behind the scenes[]

Alys Ongwa was created by Daniel José Older for the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative.[3] Older first hinted at the character through her nickname of Crash in an episode of Star Wars: The High Republic Show on July 28, 2021,[7] while Ongwa was formally revealed in a later episode of the show on November 17.[3] Ongwa debuted in "Crash and the Crew Do What They Do," a comic story written by Older, illustrated by Jesse Lonergan, and published in The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021 by IDW Publishing[5] on December 15, 2021.[8]

Older created the character as a tribute to writer Alyssa Wong, tuckerizing Wong's name.[9] Having asked them what role they would like to play within the Star Wars universe, Older based Ongwa and her occupation on Wong's answer.[10] Ongwa's pink hair was a request from Wong.[11]
