"The Anoat system? There's not much there."
Leia Organa[4]

The Anoat system was a star system located between the Hoth and Bespin systems on the Ison Corridor, in the Anoat sector, a subsector of the Javin sector of the Outer Rim Territories. It contained three habitable but inhospitable planets: Anoat, Deyer, and Gentes, as well as Gentes' moon Belsus.[1] Ugnaughts, the main race, were often used as slaves and laborers.

Sometime prior to 400 BBY, the eventual founder of Cloud City, Ecclessis Figg, mapped the first safe hyperspace route to the Anoat system.[6]

The system was taken under Separatist control during the Clone Wars, due to an attack led by General Grievous. Grievous attacked Gentes, the Ugnaught homeworld, eager to take the Ugnaughts as factory laborers. On Belsus, he demonstrated his power to a group of Jedi Padawans by destroying the population of an entire Ugnaught city. Soon after, a Jedi strike force attempted to assassinate Grievous. During their battle with him, the thermal core of a geothermal plant went critical. The resultant explosions threatened the stability of the moon's surface. Nevertheless, Grievous survived. Around 20 BBY, Obi-Wan Kenobi proposed sending a Republic Navy fleet to the Anoat system and then to Saleucami, in order to counter a planned Separatist attack.

The three planets were abandoned sometime before the Galactic Civil War. Toxic waste infected Anoat and the terraformed waterworld Deyer, forcing the populations to move offworld.

In 2 ABY, Rebel lieutenant Risiev Credal was supervising a routine patrol through the Anoat system and suddenly jumped to hyperspace without a warning, effectively disappearing. This led many to believe that Credal was a traitor.[7]

In 3 ABY following the Battle of Hoth, the Millennium Falcon passed through this relatively deserted system while fleeing from the Imperial Navy.

Sometime prior to the Battle of Endor, the elite Scythe Squadron, a squadron of TIE/LN starfighters in the Galactic Empire, were stationed in the system. Several squadron TIEs were upgraded with more powerful cannons to be able to destroy the system's asteroids.

Anoat was repopulated at some point prior to the establishment of the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4, as it was represented in the New Republic Senate.
