"Smothered in black ash up to 300 meters deep, Aplooine possesses only a scattering of stable landing points atop weathered mountains. It lacks a breathable atmosphere but has harbored colonists since the Kymoodon Era due to its position on the Duros Space Run."
―A cartographical survey and field report by Vannar Treece[4]

Aplooine was an ash-covered world in the Outer Rim Territories' Grumani sector. Its surface only featured a limited number of stable landing points on mountaintops; nevertheless, the world served as one of the origin points of the spread of exploration of surrounding space during the Kymoodon Era. During the millennia following that time, Aplooine continued to harbor colonists.

Description[]

Aplooine was a terrestrial world[4] located in the Aplooine system, a part of the Grumani sector[2] in the Trailing Sectors portion of[3] the Outer Rim Territories.[2] It was situated on the Duros Space Run hyperspace route, which linked it to the Sanrafsix and Verdanth systems. Aplooine's surface was covered in a layer of black ash that was up to three hundred meters deep, with weathered mountains harboring the only scattering of stable landing points. The world's atmosphere was not breathable.[4]

History[]

"But a few centuries after settlement began to spread from worlds such as Aplooine and Heptooine, the faith of Mani was split by a schism that soon proved irreparable."
―A cartographical survey and field report by Vannar Treece[4]

A small pocket of explored space grew around Aplooine and Heptooine during the Kymoodon Era.

Aplooine and Heptooine were two worlds[4] around which a small pocket of Galactic Republicexplored space in the southern quadrant of the galaxy spread during the Kymoodon Era of 15,000 BBY12,000 BBY.[5] Due to its position on the Duros Space Run, Aplooine continued to serve as a port for colonists for millennia following that time period.[4] By the time between approximately 12,000 BBY and 11,000 BBY, the world had become a part of the Republic despite being situated in Wild Space.[1] In 1032 BBY,[6] Jedi Master Vannar Treece briefly mentioned Aplooine in a cartographical survey and field report on the Grumani sector.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

Aplooine was first mentioned in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry. The book placed it in grid square M-17;[5] however, Essential Atlas Extra: The Knight Errant Gazetteer, a 2010 StarWars.com article co-authored by Wallace, Fry, and John Jackson Miller, instead placed it in[7] what The Essential Atlas designated as grid square N-17;[5] a placement that was later confirmed by the StarWars.com Online Companion to the book.[2]
