Arath Tarrex was a male Jedi initiate during the Republic Era. Arath often conflicted with Dooku when they were younglings (the two were part of the Hawk-Bat Clan), as he was jealous of Dooku's intellectual and combative superiority over him. Arath was the son of Jedi Master Yula Braylon.[2]
Circa 86 BBY, Arath was not selected to become a Padawan during the Initiate Trials and was forced to wait another year to be considered for selection. Arath mocked Dooku prior to the trials for his desire to see Lene Kostana attend the event since it was known that Dooku wanted to become her apprentice.[2]
Arath eventually became disgraced when his corrupt nature was exposed. It was revealed that Arath was corrupt, having robbed the ambassador Ketas during talks on Station Zeta on Plin Minor (which caused negotiations between the Plinovian and Solodo species to collapse) in order to pay for his gambling debts and had also used his mother's position to do this in order to prevent further debts. As a result, the Jedi High Council sentenced him to work in the Jedi Archives as part of his punishment.[2]
His duplicity was exposed by Dooku and his Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn who would confront Arath in the Jedi Archives before the Temple Guards led him away to the Chamber of Judgment. Before leaving, however, Dooku asked Jinn to keep Arath company.[2]
