Asara Deyn was a Twi'lek who was a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire. While his sister, Calys, organized a rebel cell, he assisted by spying on Imperial patrols. Calys later wished to leave to join the fight against the Empire, but Deyn was too afraid; his sister was killed at the Battle of Scarif after departing, leaving Deyn feeling guilt over her death.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Not much is known about Asara Deyn's life save that he had a sister named Calys, who eventually joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic during their fight against the Galactic Empire. Deyn was hesitant to join the rebel cause out of fear. He later learned that his sister died at the Battle of Scarif, motivating him to join the ongoing Rebellion out of guilt over her death.[1]

Galactic Civil War[]

Captured by Zerek Besh[]

In 3 ABY, Deyn was captured in the mansion of Sliro Barsha, leader of the Zerek Besh crime syndicate, in an attempt to 'liberate' some of his resources for the Rebellion. Barsha initially assumed him to a spy for one of the other syndicates and held him in his vault. He was rescued by a team of rebels led by Dennion. However, the Cantonican thief they hired, Kay Vess, became upset upon realizing she had been hired under false pretences and demanded her payment. Deyn tried to recruit her to the rebel cause only for Dennion to stun her, forcing the rebels to abandon Vess to Zerek Besh.[1]

Akiva[]

Deyn later traveled to the rebel base on Akiva, where he took charge of the rebels there. He sent a team to buy weapons to use against the Hutt Cartel's tribute convoys but the gangsters instead took them prisoner. Deyn berated himself for failing to anticipate the double-cross, believing Calys would've seen it coming.[1]

Some time later, he unexpectedly ran into Vess, who was looking to repair ND-5's failing power core after stumbling onto the rebel base while navigating through the old Separatist droid factory. Deyn offered to help her in exchange for rescuing a team of rebels from the Hutts before they could be sold to the Empire. While Vess was traveling to the rendezvous point, Deyn called her over comlink, admitting he never expected her to go to such length for a droid. In turn, she remarked how unsurprised she was over how the Hutts captured his team, leading him to state that his own sister wouldn't have made such a mistake in his place. He told her about Calys' death at Scarif, which the Empire covered up, but he still thought of her as a hero.[1] Vess then brought up how Deyn got captured by Sliro in the first place and criticized him for not being much of a thief. Deyn didn't disagree and unsubtly suggested that the Rebellion could use people like her.[1]

Upon arriving at the Hutt camp, Vess stealthily freed the prisoners while Deyn secured an escape route when suddenly Zerek Besh arrived. After killing all hostiles, as Vess expressed her confusion on Zerek Besh's presence instead of the Empire. Deyn guessed that ever since they raided his vault, Sliro has been hunting rebels in hopes of gaining influence with the Empire. He then thanked Vess for saving his people before trying again to recruit her. Vess took offense to this, comparing the rebels to be no better than the syndicates for the way they use people simply to get what they believed was theirs, though Deyn offered no response to her criticism.[1] Their argument was interrupted by a call from the rebel base, announcing they had found a BX-regulator. Quickly returning to base, Deyn watched as Vess installed the regulator into ND-5, which accidentally electrocuted her unconscious.[1]

While Vess was unconscious on the Trailblazer, Deyn was approached by Jaylen Vrax, who offered him a place on their crew as their new heavy to replace the recently-deceased Hoss. Deyn learned that Vrax was planning a heist on Barsha's vault again, only this time to steal a database containing information on Imperial bases, installations and callsigns as well as blackmail on almost every ranking Imperial officer. Knowing the information in that codex could greatly aid the Rebellion, Deyn agreed to join them, though they kept their true objective secret from the rest of the crew, who believed they were stealing 157 million credits worth of beskar ingots, save Riko Vess, whom Jaylen recruited as their second slicer. When Vess later came to, Deyn was sitting comfortably on the couch while Vess had it out on her estranged mother before Jaylen calmed them down.[1]

The Heist[]

Deyn, along with Ank Parako and Gedeek Obaz, traveled to The Broken Hoof on Canto Bight while Kay and Riko Vess infiltrated the ISB station where Sliro was to steal his master key. Later, after mother and daughter rendezvoused with the crew, Kay revealed that Sliro was in fact ISB and Zerek Besh is just an Imperial front; Deyn had to explain to an oblivious Ank what the ISB was. When confronted over if he knew of Sliro's true allegiances, Vrax confessed he did before convincing the crew that pulling off the heist was worth the risk.[1]
