The assault battle droid, also known as B1 assault droid or assault droid was a variation of the B1-Series battle droid used by the Trade Federation and the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Separatist Crisis and the Clone Wars. They often used heavy weapons and served as anti-armor infantry. Improved models were known as B1 Elite Assault droids.

Characteristics[]

Assault battle droids were B1-Series battle droid variants,[4] stood 1.91 meters tall, with black sensors and tan plating constructed by Baktoid Armor Workshop.[1] They had masculine programming[2] The heavy assault droids stood out from the standard battle droids, with their dark red or blue torso, with occasionally other red markings similar to, but not to be confused, with OOM security battle droids.[5][2]

The standard armament of B1 assault droids was blaster rifle.[4] However, assault droids were often produced as anti-armored units used to destroy Republic turrets and vehicles on the battlefield using their primary weapon, the E-60R missile launcher. Supplementing the launcher was an SE-14 blaster pistol for taking out close-range, individual targets, and 3 V-1 thermal detonators. They also deployed HX2 antipersonnel mines mines to guard important positions.

History[]

Assault battle droids were deployed during the Invasion of Naboo and the Kashyyyk Trade Rebellion during the Separatist Crisis.[5]

They were later seen on many battles of the Clone Wars, such as the Battle of Geonosis, the Assault on Kamino, the Battle of Rhen Var,[5] the Battle of Muunilinst,[7] the Defense of Maridun, the First Battle of Felucia, the Battle of Christophsis, the Battle of Kamino, the Skirmish on Carlac, the Battle of Umbara,[4] the Battle of Mygeeto, the Battle of Felucia, the Battle of Kashyyyk and the Battle of Utapau.[2]

Following the end of the Clone Wars, they saw action on Mustafar with Gizor Dellso's Separatist holdouts.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Assault droids first appeared in Clone Wars Chapter 2,[7] and served as the Separatist heavy-weapons unit in the Battlefront series.[2]
