Around 3 ABY,^[3] the Alliance to Restore the Republic carried out an assault on Coruscant,^[1] also known as a mission to Coruscant,^[4] to damage a statue of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine: at that time, both Palpatine and Darth Vader were dealing with an anomaly in the Force, so the Alliance hoped the assault would rattle the pair, pushing them further off-balance, and also remind the galaxy that the Alliance continued to fight the Galactic Empire. By striking at the Imperial capital planet of Coruscant, the rebels hoped to show they were strong and unafraid. The plan for the assault was devised by General Leia Organa, who, along with Admiral Gial Ackbar, presented the plan to a group of elite rebel pilots.^[2]

A-wing pilots Nien Nunb, Freyta Smyth, and Bryen Rowne joined Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca for the mission. Although the mission resulted in the deaths of Smyth and Rowne, it was ultimately a success, as the target was taken out and news of the daring rebel attack reached the HoloNet.^[2]
