"Coruscant has not been attacked in over one thousand years!"
"Then it has a false sense of security."
―Lott Dod and Nix Card[2]

The planet[3] Coruscant was attacked at one point over 1000 years before 21 BBY.[1] That year, during which the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems raged, the attack was recalled by Republic Senator Lott Dod of the Trade Federation in a meeting with fellow senators Nix Card and Gume Saam.[2]

The senators hoped to trigger a vote in the Galactic Senate for the deregulation of banks to earn money for the Federation and the Banking Clan. When Card suggested that an attack closer to home could change the minds of some senators to vote for deregulation, Dod realized he was referring to an attack on Coruscant, and responded that Coruscant had not been attacked in over a millennium. Card insisted that fact gave Coruscant's inhabitants a false confidence in their safety and, with Separatist aid, the group went on to successfully orchestrate a bombing that ensured the Senate voted for deregulation.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The attack on Coruscant was alluded to in "Heroes on Both Sides,"[2] the tenth episode of the third season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The episode first aired on November 19, 2010. The accompanying episode guide on StarWars.com stated that the timeline for the attack coincides with a chronology that places the last war between the Jedi and the Sith in a similar time, but did not acknowledge that the attack was part of that conflict.[4]

Notes and references[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 62 (21 BBY 17–18, Defense of Kamino) dates "ARC Troopers" to 21 BBY, while The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 7 (KAT2, King Katuunko) dates "Pursuit of Peace" to 21 BBY. Since StarWars Star Wars: The Clone Wars Chronological Episode Order on StarWars.com (backup link) places "Heroes on Both Sides" between those two episodes, it can be concluded that "Heroes on Both Sides" also takes place in 21 BBY. As the episode establishes that the attack on Coruscant took place over 1000 years prior to its events, the attack must have taken place over 1000 years prior to 21 BBY.
