In 21 BBY,[4] following the Second Battle of Geonosis during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, a series of attacks was launched against hyperspace routes near the Outer Rim Territories. In response, Jedi General Eeth Koth led his fleet to track down those who were responsible.[1] However, while traveling through the Saleucami system[5] in the Outer Rim,[6] the fleet was caught in a surprise attack launched by Separatist General Grievous,[1] who boarded Koth's flagship, the Venator-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, with a force of battle droids and captured him.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

The attacks on hyperspace routes were mentioned in "The Beginning of the Clone Wars," a 2021 issue of De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia line of reference magazines.[1]

  2. Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide states that the Onderonian Civil War began 22 years before the Rogue One mission. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the Rogue One mission to 0 BBY. Therefore, the Onderonian Civil War began in 22 BBY, while its end, depicted in "Tipping Points," must occur in 20 BBY; Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the events of "Water War" to 20 BBY, while Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Character Encyclopedia - Join the Battle! dates the events of "The Gathering" to be 20 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 20 BBY according to Star Wars: Galactic Atlas. As StarWars.com Star Wars: The Clone Wars Chronological Episode Order on StarWars.com (backup link) establishes that the events of "Tipping Points," and therefore the end of the Onderonian Civil War, occurred between the events of "Water War" and "The Gathering," the war must have ended in 20 BBY. Therefore, the attacks on hyperspace routes were concurrent to the Onderonian Civil War.
  3. "Brain Invaders" establishes that the second occupation of Geonosis began after the Second Battle of Geonosis, while Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel shows that it continued throughout the rest of the Clone Wars. As AltayaCite.svg "The Beginning of the Clone Wars" – Star Wars Encyclopedia establishes that the attacks on hyperspace routes occurred after the Second Battle of Geonosis, but still during the Clone Wars, the attacks must have been concurrent to the second occupation.
  4. 4.0 4.1 Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Character Encyclopedia - Join the Battle! dates the events of "Grievous Intrigue" to 21 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 21 BBY according to Star Wars: Galactic Atlas. "The Beginning of the Clone Wars" establishes that the attacks on hyperspace routes near the Outer Rim Territories occurred before the events of "Grievous Intrigue," but after the Second Battle of Geonosis, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates to 21 BBY. Therefore, the attacks must occur in 21 BBY as well.
