- "We are mercenaries that specialize in search, locate and annihilate missions. [...] We do not advertise. Most of our jobs come from references and repeat customers. With a 99.26% mission success rate, we maintain a waiting list of interested clients."
- ―Loruna Scathe, to a spacer
The Azure Cabal was a mercenary organization.
History[]
The Azure Cabal was formed by Loruna Scathe, a former Mistryl Shadow Guard member, who learned the truth about the origins of the Guard and left it. The Cabal competed with the Shadow Guard for the same kinds of contracts, so she maintained tight secrecy for the safety of herself, her people and her clients. To avoid conflict with the Mistryl Shadow Guards or attract the attention of the Empire, the Cabal was organized to consist of scattered, but highly capable mercenaries that operated throughout the galaxy. Each member of the inner-circle solicited mercenary contracts from specific contacts to avoid undue attention.[2]
Various mercenaries and rogues sought out employment with the Cabal, but in order to reach the inner-circle, they had to succeed in surviving a number of tough tests. A spacer succeeded in doing so[1] in 1 ABY.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The Azure Cabal appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] The Azure Cabal quest series was added to the game upon the release of the "Chapter 6" update, on May 22, 2007.[5]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
