"Sir, over there, the Jedi is escaping."
"Not likely."
―A B1 battle droid and his B2 commander — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

The B2-HA super battle droid, also known as the heavy assault super battle droid,[2] was a version of the B2 super battle droid equipped with a cannon arm that could launch either a warhead, or homing torpedo.[3] These battle droids were used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, and were sometimes assigned as field officers.[2] One of these super battle droids led B1 battle droids on Rodia.[3][1]

Characteristics[]

The B2-HA series super battle droid model was equipped with a cannon arm or homing torpedo. It could be recognized due to a yellow symbol on its left shoulder.[2] It served as a much greater threat during direct combat than its counterpart, capable of creating a large explosion with its cannon attachment.[4] Due to their limited abilities as competent commanders, they often only led small groups of droids or guarded essential locations on the battlefield.[1][5] The B2-HA series featured heat exchangers on their back.[6]

History[]

Malevolence SBD commander

A B2-HA series super battle droid charging its cannon arm

During the First Battle of Geonosis in 22 BBY,[7] a B2-HA saw action. It swatted aside its own troops to fire at a Republic All Terrain Tactical Enforcer. Clone trooper CT-1226 targeted its heat exchangers, and the missile it fired hit a Hailfire Droid. CT-1226 disabled the B2 with an Electromagnetic pulse grenade and destroyed the droid with his blaster.[6]

Heavy super battle droids were used throughout the Hunt for the Decimator in the year 22 BBY.

Early in the Clone Wars, one B2-HA series super battle droid served as part of the battalion of forces under one of Count Dooku's Dark Acolyte and assassin Asajj Ventress. She was the Supreme Leader of the forces, and the Separatist droid forces were deployed on the moon of Rugosa. This droid was destroyed by Jedi Master Yoda during the battle.[3]

Shortly after, another of this super battle droid was used onboard the Malevolence. An OOM command battle droid ordered the battle droid to destroy a rail jet using its cannon arm, almost killing Padmé Amidala.[8]

On Rodia, another super battle droid led droid troops in the Senatorial Palace. This droid used a homing torpedo in an attempt to destroy Jar Jar Binks, mistaking him for a Jedi. This droid was destroyed, alongside his troops, by the Kwazel Maw, "Bogey."[1] When Nute Gunray was being transported onboard the Venator-class Star Destroyer, Tranquility, another B2-HA series super battle droid was part of a Separatist boarding party. This droid exited a Droch-class boarding ship alongside B2 super battle droids troops and cleared through a Republic defensive in the Tranquility's hangar with its cannon arm.[4]

A B2-HA series super battle droid served as a commander within Nashtah Team during Cad Bane's attack on the Republic outpost on the planet Devaron. The droid acted under Bounty hunter Aurra Sing during the battle as they prepared to ambush the outpost. Republic forces, however, managed to burst a nearby dam and flood the invasion force.[5]

An enhanced model known as the B2 Assault were used during the Third battle of Felucia.[9]

At least three B2-HA series super battle droids were present during the CIS occupation of Onderon. One was present during a small skirmish between the CIS droids and the Onderon rebels outside the capital city, Iziz while the other two were present fighting the same group of rebels when they infiltrated Iziz in an attempt to liberate it. However, all three droids were destroyed by the rebels. Onderon would ultimately be liberated from the Separatists, and General Kalani, who had lead CIS forces on the planet, was ordered by Count Dooku to salvage the remaining arms and withdraw the army and bring them to the agriworld Agamar.

Behind the scenes[]

The video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns, which featured the CIS forces through the lense of a real-time strategy game, features a B2 variant called the "heavy super battle droid" with pink markings that features a heavy cannon on its right arm instead of the left.
