The B2 grapple droid, based on the B2 super battle droid model, was a droid model specifically designed for the Separatists' attack on Coruscant.
Overview[]

A B2 grapple droid.
Bigger and profoundly more vicious than its predecessors, the grapple droid was equipped with electrically charged industrial pincers, which are used to crush or impale enemies and obstacles. They could also be used to smash through stone walls. The grapple droid excelled at close-quarters combat and its embrace was quite deadly. They proved dangerously efficient against Jedi, who, if grappled, were unable to use a lightsaber.
General Grievous himself personally oversaw its modifications.
History[]

The red variant of the B2 grapple droid.
Grapple droids were used aboard the Invisible Hand where they attempted to stop Anakin Skywalker's and Obi-Wan Kenobi's rescue of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. In addition to being used during the Battle of Coruscant, they took part in the occupation of Utapau. At times, they served as military police for the droid army. The Battle of Utapau saw the introduction of even more formidable grapple droid, one that had a red color scheme and was capable of sending powerful energy blasts across the ground towards a target by slamming their pincer into the ground. A grapple droid was seen trying to stop a battle droid from deserting in the Battle of Antamont.

Following the deaths of the members of the Separatist Council by Darth Sidious's new apprentice, Darth Vader, these units were deactivated along with the other battle droids.
