This article is about an explorer droid. You may be looking for nanny droid BD series.

"Beedee units are some of the best explorers in the galaxy, and you won't find a better example than this little guy right here. Beeps in the face of danger."
―Cal Kestis, on BD-1[7]

BD units, also called BD explorer droids, were a model of explorer droid.

Characteristics[]

BD units were companion droids designed to assist with operations in remote and dangerous locations across the galaxy; programmed to be the ideal assistant to researchers or explorers operating alone in the field, they were designed to traverse all types of terrain.[3] As a result of their manufacturer collapsing, BD units were a relatively rare sight in the galaxy.[5] A type of similar[6] looking and similarly named droid, the BDX droid, also existed but was much larger in scale.[8]

History[]

One such droid was BD-1, who accompanied Jedi Master Eno Cordova, and later the Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis[6] in 14 BBY.[9] Another BD droid was in a safehouse on the planet Mapuzo.[10] Another BD unit was TA-418, who assisted Doctor Eustacia Okka, former professor at the Shadow University institution, during the Imperial Era.[4] BD-72 was another BD unit who was under the ownership of Peli Motto[11] around 9 ABY.[12]

Behind the scenes[]

The BD unit first appeared in the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.[6] It made its live action debut in "Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian,"[11] the fifth episode of the Disney+ television series The Book of Boba Fett, which was released on January 26, 2022.[13]
