A bacta grenade was a long-range healing device that contained bacta, a type of synthetic healing fluid. The grenades were used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the time of the Galactic Civil War, a conflict between the Alliance and the Galactic Empire. Bacta grenades were thrown near wounded individuals who were too far away for medics to administer conventional healing. When activated and thrown, the grenade's halves would separate and bacta would spray out.
Description[edit | edit source]
A bacta grenade was a type of grenade containing a synthetic healing fluid known as bacta, which would be released when the grenade was activated and thrown. During combat, medics would throw the grenades near injured individuals who were out of reach of more conventional forms of healing. The grenades were made up of two halves that would separate in order for the bacta to spray out from the inside. One type of bacta grenade had gray halves, a red button on the top of one half, and a red light on the side of each half.
History[edit | edit source]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The bacta grenade first appeared in Star Wars Galaxies, a 2003 MMORPG produced by Sony Online Entertainment, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011. They were added to the game in the 2005 New Game Enhancements as a long-range healing ability for the medic class. In 2008, the bacta grenade received a card in Champions of the Force, the first set of cards produced for the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game, which was a virtual card game produced by Sony to go along with Star War Galaxies. The bacta-grenade card was illustrated by the artist Kieran Yanner. The bacta-grenade card was given to the Rebel faction in the trading-card game, while in Star Wars Galaxies, any character who was a medic could use bacta grenades.
