- "Had enough heat on worlds like Li-Toran and Jakku? Same here. That's why I decided to make my next stop on Barlok, an Inner Rim planet famous for its advanced horticultural techniques. I figured it would be a great chance to reload my cargo pods with all the fresh fruit and veg a wanderin' chef could possibly need—from shi-shok to taba leaf."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook
Barlok was a terrestrial planet in the Inner Rim Territories known for its advanced horticultural techniques. Prisht-fruit was native to the world and its most prized produce. Other edible plants like taba leaf and shi-shok could also be purchased there. Having had enough of hot worlds like Li-Toran and Jakku, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs visited Barlok during a culinary tour of the galaxy that he made[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY.[2] Tuggs used the opportunity to stock up on fruit and vegetables, including two bushels of prisht-fruit, which he thought he would have been a fool to miss. He later mentioned Barlok as part of the recipe for prisht parfait in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, Barlok was mentioned in the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak.[1] Barlok originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in Timothy Zahn's 2006 novel, Outbound Flight.[3]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
