- "Of course, it should be mentioned here that the Neimoidians are notorious virus carriers. Although immune to most harmful microbes themselves, they have been the scourge of the galaxy, responsible—though they deny it—for the Great Pandemic of Deersheba and the equally lethal Instenstinal Revenge of Bars Barka that created the massive weight loss that swept though the Ubese colonists."
- ―Ebenn Q3 Baobab, in the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide
Bars Barka was a planet[3] located in Bars Barka system, within the Barsa sector of the galaxy's Mid Rim[1] and New Territories.[2] It was connected to the Varvva system by a hyperspace route.[4] Several decades before the outbreak of the Clone Wars[3] in the year 22 BBY,[5] the planet's Ubese colonists were devasated by the[3] lethal[6] Intestinal Revenge of Bars Barka, a global illness believed to have been transmitted by a Neimoidian trade delgation that resulted in crippling weight loss.[3] Between 12 and 13 ABY, Bars Barka fell within the borders of the New Republic.[4]
Behind the scenes
Bars Barka was originally created for the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, a Star Wars Legends reference book written by Ben Burtt, illustrated by Sergio Aragonés,[6] and released on August 7, 2001.[7] The Essential Atlas, a reference book written by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace[2] and released on August 18, 2009,[8] placed the Bars Barka system, and therefore Bars Barka itself, in grid square J-6.[2]
