Plot summary[]
The kidnapping[]
One morning, the restaurateur Hap welcomes members of the Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio band, whom he regards as old friends. Their reunion is interrupted by the Ganguls, who wreck Hap's Sap Tap's furniture. Sellaccc Orryak says that her gang is in need of a band and orders Jooro Jarrot and Toda-Joh to kidnap the band members which consist of a Bith, a Rodian, a Gigoran and an Ardennian and take them to Yarrum. Hap ponders what to do in despair and doubts his ability to rescue the band.
Later the Jedi Initiates Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs bring Padawan Wes Vinik for breakfast at Hap's Sap Tap. They find that the restaurant has been wrecked. Hap emerges from the counter and tells the Jedi that the Ganguls kidnapped Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio. Hap berates himself for being frightened by the pirates and not being a hero like the Jedi. Brightstar and Vinik promise to help Hap get his friends back. When Hap says that he is not a hero like them, Solay and Vinik reassure him that he can help in other ways. Vinik invites Hap along. He believes that the band are in danger.
The Yarrum exchange[]
The Jedi and Hap get a ride aboard Nash Durango's Crimson Firehawk. The Firehawk circles Yarrum Tower but find no sign of the Ganguls. Solay spots the Ganguls' flagship Rathtar's Revenge hovering over the desert. Durango and RJ-83 fly closer to have a look. Through a Macrobinoculars Brightstar, Vinik and Hap spot a sail barge and other speeders. On the deck, Hap sees Feb and his band. Hap also sees the infamous Hutt crime lord Bulcha, one of the most feared crime lords in Tenoo's sector, and numerous security droids. Brightstar tasks Durango and RJ-83 with staying behind as getaway pilots while the Jedi infiltrate the ship disguised as guards.
Bulcha reminds Orryak about their deal to trade the band for several armored security droids. When Rozo asks why he and his band are chained, Bulcha reminds them that they are his prisoners. After handing the keys to a red-skinned Twi'lek guard, Bulcha orders the band to play to some music. The four aliens play an upbeat tune, which pleases Bulcha. The Jedi mingle on the deck disguised as pirate guards while Hap hides behind a stack of crates. When a green-skinned Kadas'sa'Nikto notices the strangers, a disguised Hap manages to draw his attention by offering a cold drink for a hot afternoon.
Impressed with Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio's performance, Bulcha agrees to sell the security droids to the Ganguls in return for the kidnapped band members. To celebrate the deal, Bulcha treats his guests to cold drinks. While Hap serves them, the disguised Jedi younglings approach the band members. The female Ardennian band member is despondent but Brightstar reassures her that they are here to help. Brightstar proposes searching for the keys but Vinik ignites his lightsaber, which he intends to use to free the kidnapped band members.
However, this draws the attention of the pirates and Bulcha. When Bulcha asks about the uninvited guests, Orryak attempts to cover her mistake by offering both the band and the Jedi as prisoners. Vinik demands that the Hutt release their friends. Bulcha instead deploys his three security droids who wield vibroblades. Outnumbered, Vinik convinces his fellow Jedi to deactivate the lightsabers. Bulcha's guards take the prisoners to the brig while Bulcha returns to sealing the deal with the Ganguls. Orryak orders Jarrot and Joh to bring the security droids back to their shuttle.
Hap to the rescue[]
Hap panics about the botched rescue mission but recalls Solay's advice that he can find his own way to help. Before the guards can usher their Jedi prisoners into the brig, Hap confronts the guns and knocks them out with two beverage mugs. Solay and Vinik steal the guard's keys before locking them inside the brig.
Outside, Bulcha gloats over his lopsided deal with the Ganguls, who have departed in their starship. He reveals that he had acquired the popular Sap Tap Trio band in return for selling two rusty security droids to the pirates. The Jedi confront the Hutt crime lord and his guards. While Hap frees the kidnapped band members, the Jedi fight against Bulcha's guards, who are armed with vibroblades. Before Hap can free the band members, Bulcha grabs his arm and attempts to assert his authority. Hap temporarily blinds him by splashing a mug on him. He then process to free Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio.
While fighting the Twi'lek guard, Brightstar contacts Durango via holoprojector to request a pick-up. The Nikto guard knocks Vinik to the ground with his vibroblade. The guard is distracted by the Firehawk flying over the sail barge, allowing Vinik to Force push him against a sail mast. Nubs and Solay drive a guard into Bulcha, knocking them over. Durango positions the landing ramp of the Firehawk against the ship's deck. The Jedi, band members and Hap climb aboard and the ship flies away, leaving a defeated Bulcha behind.
Back in Kublop Springs, Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio hold a concert at Hap's Sap Tap. Hap tells the crowd that he learnt that anyone can be a hero. He also gives credit to his Jedi friends and Durango. The band play a song.
