"The time has come at last to take revenge on Asajj Ventress and the witch Mother Talzin. I have learned Ventress has returned to Dathomir. Go there, and wipe the witches out. All of them."
―Count Dooku, to General Grievous[src]

The Battle of Dathomir occurred during the Clone Wars on the planet Dathomir. The Confederacy of Independent Systems launched an invasion that resulted in the annihilation of the Nightsisters; many of the Dathomir witches on the planet were killed. The assault was led by General Grievous on the orders of Count Dooku.

Prelude

"Assemble the fleet! The time to exact vengeance against the traitor Ventress has arrived! We go to Dathomir, to battle!"
―General Grievous before the battle[src]

Asajj Ventress had been the Sith apprentice of Count Dooku since the beginning of the Clone Wars. She lead Separatist forces against the Galactic Republic for multiple battles, but during the Battle of Sullust Dooku was contacted by his master Darth Sidious. Sidious believed that Ventress had grown too powerful, and believed that she was being trained to be used against him so Dooku could take power, in line with the Rule of Two. While Dooku tried to deny this, Sidious ordered Ventress' death, and Dooku eventually agreed. He called off her reinforcements, and ordered Tactical droid TJ-912 to fire on the ship Ventress was in. During this Dooku informed Ventress through Hologram that she was no longer his apprentice and she would die.[7]

Ventress did survive however, and returned to her homeworld of Dathomir, where she rejoined the Nightsisters and began to make plans to kill Dooku for revenge.[7]

Later Dooku, having learned that Ventress was on Dathomir, sent the Supreme Commander of the Droid Army, General Grievous, and an army of battle droids to finally exterminate the Nightsisters.[4]

At the same time, Ventress had completed her initiation, and had become a full Nightsister.[4]
