In 3,681 BBY, the reconstituted Sith Empire returned to the known galaxy from relative exile and invaded the Minos Cluster in the Outer Rim Territories. The operation was one of the earliest conflicts of the Great Galactic War, performed during the Sith's initial blitz against vital enemy holdings. Eliad however was the turning point of this campaign because on ground of Eliad the Republic troops finally stopped the victorious Sith offensive on the Minos Cluster. The loss of the Minos Cluster and the high volume of resources it contained was a significant blow to the Republic, leading to intense political infighting and additional losses in the twenty-eight-year war, but the victory on Eliad improved the moral of republic people demostranding that the Empire can be defeated.
