The Battle of Esseles took place five months after the First Battle of Geonosis.^[1] When a Separatist-funded government faction declared that the planet had joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems,^[1] a Republic loyalist resistance movement was formed.^[2]^[1] The two sides clashed for five days in a battle described as "bloody." The loyalists eventually won, however, and they forced the Separatist faction out.^[1] After the battle, Griff Takel was appointed as Governor of Esseles by the Republic.^[2]
