A battle between Galactic Republic and Sith Empire naval forces occurred in the ice rings of the planet Mugaar during the last stages of the Cold War. The battle resulted in the destruction of a Republic fleet by a Sith task force. Imperial ships had earlier lured a Republic border patrol, commanded by a powerful Jedi Master, into the orbital ice rings of the planet Mugaar. Communications were jammed and the Sith called for the help of the elite Empire's Fury squadron, which quickly destroyed the Republic fleet.
