A battle occurred on the moon Yavin 4 in the aftermath of the Battle of Rishi during the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. The battle saw a Coalition of Imperial and Republic forces, under the command of Darth Marr and Satele Shan, join together to combat the Order of Revan and their leader Revan, who sought to restore the Sith Emperor to a physical form in order to permanently defeat him. Revan's plans were stopped, but the Emperor regained his strength nonetheless and vanished from the moon.
Prelude[]
Believing that the only way to destroy the Sith Emperor for good was to return him to a physical form first, the reborn Revan took direct control of the Order of Revan that worshipped him and recruited many defectors from both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire to his cause.[3] His plans were being interfered with by Theron Shan of the Republic Strategic Information Service, Lana Beniko, and their ally. To distract them long enough to enact his plans of ressurrecting the Emperor on Yavin 4,[2] Revan set a trap for the Imperial and Republic fleets above Rishi. Rerouting the hyperlanes was meant to lure both fleets into the system, where a signal jammer would prevent any communications within both fleets, while saboteurs placed on each vessel would sabotage the systems, allowing both fleets to annihilate one-another.[8]
The plan nearly succeeded, but the associate of Shan and Beniko disabled the jammer on the planet's surface and contacted both fleets, revealing to them the Revanite deception and providing the list of traitors aboard both fleets as proof. This convinced Jedi Grand Master Satele Shan and Dark Council's de-facto leader Darth Marr to order a ceasefire,[9] after which both sides agreed to put aside their differences to stop Vitiate from consuming all life in the galaxy. Acting largely on their own, Darth Marr and Grand Master Shan formed the Coalition from the present portion of their fleets and traveled to the moon Yavin 4 to stop Revan's plans.[3]
His involvement exposed to the galaxy, Revan advanced his plans and invaded Yavin 4 in force; his Revanites overwhelmed the small number of Imperial Guardsmen who were stationed at the Imperial Guard Academy on the moon, and secured the Temple of Sacrifice. The Coalition established a Command Post not far from the Revanite's position but was initially unable to do much more than that, as soldiers from both sides were wary of each other and had difficulty working together. A series of sensor beacons was established along the perimeter, granting the Coalition both an eye on the Revanite activities and an insurance against a mutual backstabbing. Satele Shan and Darth Marr then went on to coordinate the allied forces in a series of attacks against the Revanites, while Theron and Lana Beniko's ally led the troops out on the field.[5]
The Conflict[]
It was discovered that the Revanites had taken over an Imperial Guard Academy, an incursion into which led to the capture of the surviving Imperial Guard Commandant Iven. Iven revealed that the Revanites were using the Temple of Sacrifice as their base and that Revan was planning to use an artifact that could bring the Sith Emperor back to the life at the cost of killing every living thing on the moon except those inside the Temple. In spite of the increasing conflict between the Revanites and the Coalition, both Satele Shan and Darth Marr could detect a large light-side presence on the moon,[1] which was revealed to be the Force ghost of Revan, who after the battle of the Foundry was self being divided into two halves, representing his light and dark side. Revan's light-side half was capable of becoming one with the Force, but was unable to do so without his darker counterpart, who still existed in physical form and was the one seeking to bring Vitiate back to life. This prompted the Coalition to organize one final assault against the Revanites, in order to put a stop to Revan's plans once and for all.[7]
The complex locking mechanisms of the Temple were disengaged, but a large host of Revanites still stood between the Coalition forces and the Temple. Once the old rivalries between the Republic and Imperial soldiers were smoothed out, both sides were finally able to work together as a unified force and a combined Republic and Imperial strike team stormed the Temple. The team engaged against the remaining Revanite Commanders, defeating Revan and destroying an HK-47 unit. Revan's ritual was stopped, and the artifact was destroyed, but Revan himself escaped the Temple and retreated to a small sanctuary nearby. To stop him once and for all, the Coalition leadership went to face Revan face to face, represented by Darth Marr, Satele Shan and her son Theron, Lana Beniko, Wookiee smuggler Jakarro, and Shae Vizla.[2]
Determined to confront the Emperor in spite of the disruption of his plans, Revan engaged in battle with the coalition forces, holding his own against a large number of enemies, but he was ultimately defeated. Although it had appeared that Revan was stopped him in his tracks, the voice of Vitiate echoed from above the temple, taunting Revan that the entire conflict had been a ploy to bring him back to physical form. His strength restored by feeding off of the deaths and chaos caused by the battle on the moon, the Emperor declared his intention to retake the galaxy as his own, and his spirit then vanished from Yavin 4 without taking a body. Devastated at his failure, the dark Revan was enraged to be visited by his spectral half, but the spirit convinced his other half to release his hold on their physical form and merge once more, making Revan whole. His mind restored, Revan warned the coalition to remain vigilant in the wake of the Emperor's return, and Revan's physical body vanished as he merged with the Force.[2]
Aftermath[]
Although the Coalition achieved victory, it was agreed that Vitiate's return was perhaps the most significant concern that the galaxy would face in the coming days. Despite such, however, the Republic and Empire were both still at war with one-another, and it would be difficult to convince both governments to halt hostilities entirely. Still though, Marr and Shan came to a mutual conclusion: that if Vitiate one day were to return and attack, they would be ready and prepared to reconstitute their alliance. The Coalition was dissolved and both fleets returned to their original factions, although both sides left small garrisons on the moon to deal with the remaining pockets of Revanite activities.[2]
