- "War. I'm tired of war."
- ―Corwin Ballast, after the battle on Mordal
A battle between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance took place in the world Mordal's city of Maborn, several weeks prior to the rebellion on Akiva in 4 ABY. The Ballast family became trapped in the area of contention between the warring sides, which were stationed on opposite sides of Maborn. The daughter of the civilian Corwin Ballast and his wife, Lynnta, became immobilized in a street, and the rescue attempt made by her parents proved unsuccessful when the pair were wounded by blaster fire from Imperial and rebel forces sides prior to reaching their child.
The battle on Mordal ended without a decisive victor, with the combatants choosing to halt hostilities. Ballast, grieved upon learning Lynnta and his daughter had died in the firefight, decided to depart Mordal and travel to the planet Jakku, a place he felt war would not breach.
