- "Who are you?"
"Someone who loves you. When you left the Wheel, I joined the Empire... But now that I know you fight for the Rebels... I see I'm on the wrong side" - ―Zander Freemaker and Becky Smoochenbacher
Becky Smoochenbacher was a resident of the Upper Ring section of the space station known as The Wheel during the Imperial Era. Smoochenbacher and fellow Wheel resident Zander Freemaker had romantic feelings for one other. However, neither of them believed the other felt the same. Freemaker often mentioned his feelings for Smoochenbacher around his family, much to his sister Kordi Freemaker's annoyance. After Freemaker left the Wheel with his family in 4 ABY and did not return, Smoochenbacher joined the Empire as an Imperial weapons technician.
Smoochenbacher was eventually deployed to the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station above the forest moon of Endor. The Freemakers—who had since joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic—were captured aboard the Death Star after a failed attack on the station. The Kyber Saber was taken from Zander's Jedi brother Rowan Freemaker and was given to Smoochenbacher with orders to deliver it to Emperor Palpatine. She instead freed the Freemakers, switching sides and joining the Rebellion. Zander and Smoochenbacher confessed their love for each other and shared several kisses before separating with the promise to meet again on Endor. They fulfilled their promise and met after the destruction of the Death Star and death of the emperor. Years later in 34 ABY, Smoochenbacher and Freemaker's daughter Moxie Freemaker shared her eagerness to help the Resistance against the First Order as Smoochenbacher and Zander had helped the Rebels against the Empire.
Biography[]
The Galactic Empire[]
- "My name is Zander Freemaker, and I come from The Wheel, and I like starships, and pickles, a-and Becky Smoochenbacher from the Upper Ring!"
"It hasn't done anything to you yet." - ―Zander Freemaker and Darth Vader
Becky Smoochenbacher resided on the Upper Ring of the Wheel space station[4] at some point between 3 ABY and 4 ABY.[5] She had a crush on fellow Wheel resident Zander Freemaker, but believed he had no idea who she was.[1] When Freemaker was captured by the Galactic Empire's Imperial-class Star Destroyer Vendetta, he was threatened with torture by the Sith Lord Darth Vader—who assumed Freemaker was a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Upon seeing an IT-O interrogation droid, Freemaker quickly confessed his name, residency at The Wheel, his love for pickles, and affinity for Smoochenbacher, requesting that Vader kept that information between them.[4]
In 4 ABY,[5] The Empire placed a bounty on Zander's brother Rowan Freemaker, and they alongside their sister Kordi Freemaker, decided not to return to the Wheel.[6] Smoochenbacher joined the Galactic Empire's Navy as an Imperial weapons technician after the Freemakers did not return.[1]
Zander's return to the Wheel[]
- "I just can't wait to see it all again; Freemaker Salvage and Repair, underground podraces, Becky Smoochenbacher..."
"No, no, no, no. No Becky, no smooching. We can't see anyone who knows us."
"Oh, that's not a problem. She has no idea who I am." - ―Zander and Kordi Freemaker
Zander, Kordi, and Rowan Freemaker—who had since joined the Rebel Alliance—later returned to the Imperial-occupied Wheel in search for an energy matrix activator for the Arrowhead starship. While approaching the station, Zander shared his excitement to see everything on the wheel again, including Smoochenbacher. Kordi then quickly reminded Zander that they could not be seen by anyone they used to know from the Wheel. Zander then admitted Smoochenbacher had no idea who he was.[2]
After finding their way onto the Wheel, the Freemakers traveled through the ventilation shafts to their old Freemaker Salvage and Repair hangar, where they believed the matric activator would be found. The family then saw the hangar had been transformed into Wick Cooper's Caf Bean and Kitsch Klatch cantina. Realizing they had time before they were able to enter the busy cantina, Zander pondered connecting with Smoochenbacher, but Kordi threatened to throw him out of an airlock if he finished his sentence.[2]
Later, when fleeing on a speeder from Graballa the Hutt's bounty hunters through a market on the Wheel, Zander spotted whom he believed to be Smoochenbacher before Kordi reminded him to keep his eyes front. Not paying attention, Zander crashed the speeder and in a daze believed he was looking up at Smoochenbacher, confessing his love to her. Kordi then interrupted him, informing the dazed mechanic that he was talking to a fire extinguisher with a mop on top of it. Undetered, Zander reached for the fire extinguisher and yelled that nothing could extinguish his love for her before being dragged away by Kordi. When leaving the station, Zander spoke to himself bidding Smoochenbacher farewell, believing that despite the Galactic Civil War keeping them apart, he knew in his heart that they would be together again. Rowan then spoke up, reminding Zander that they were never together to begin with, which Zander defensively yelled was a technicality.[2]
End of the war[]
- "Get to your ship as fast as you can. I will find you on Endor."
- ―Smoochenbacher freeing the Freemakers
After crash landing on a planet[7] in the Outer Rim Territories[8] while fleeing from the Imperial droid M-OC, the Freemakers discovered and obtained kyber crystals needed for the Arrowhead. Thrilled, Zander asked could now finish building the Arrowhead, win the Galactic Civil War to save the galaxy, and get him a date with Smoochenbacher. Rowan replied saying they could do two out of those three, and Zander reclined in his chair saying he does not need to save the galaxy.[2]
During the Battle of Endor, Smoochenbacher was present on the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station above the moon of Endor. The Freemakers—alongside the Mon Calamari shipbuilder Quarrie—crashed their ship StarScavenger into a hangar of the Death Star where they were captured soon after. Placed in stuncuffs, they were marched through a hall on the station to a detention cell when Smoochenbacher encountered the group and was given Rowan's Kyber Saber by a stormtrooper. The stormtrooper then commanded her to deliver the saber to Galactic Emperor Palpatine. Ignoring the stormtrooper's command, Smoochenbacher made her way to the Freemaker's holding cell and told the group that they needed to get off of the Death Star immediately. She removed the stuncuffs from each of them as Zander asked who she was, not recognizing her with the helmet on.[1]
She removed the helmet and swayed her hair, saying she was someone who loved him as Zander sat with his mouth hanging open, releasing multiple gasps. Smoochenbacher told Freemaker that she left the Wheel after he did not return, and admitting she was on the wrong side after discovering his affiliation with the Rebel Alliance. Finally able to form words, Zander yelled her name. Smoochenbacher was surprised he knew her name, believing he had no idea who she was, and telling him that she had a crush on him forever. They kissed several times before Smoochenbacher told the group they would need to return to their ship as fast as they could, promising to meet them on Endor. She then ran out of the cell and Zander fainted. After the death of the Emperor and the destruction of the Death Star, a celebration was held on Endor. Becky found Zander among the crowed and the two shared a kiss.[1]
Later life and legacy[]
- "What were you thinking, Freemaker?"
"Well, sir, my aunt, my uncle, and my parents all fought for the Rebellion, so I guess I'm just eager to help the Resistance. Maybe a little too eager." - ―General Mundu and Private Moxie Freemaker
At some point, Freemaker and Smoochenbacher had a child, whom they named Moxie Freemaker.[3] By 34 ABY,[9] Moxie went on to join the Resistance against the First Order,[3] a successor to the Galactic Empire.[10] In 34 ABY,[9] Moxie was stationed at the Resistance base on the moon of D'Qar with her companions Ka-Pao and the B1-series battle droid R0-GR, the Freemaker family droid. Together, the trio attempted to speed up delivery of starship parts on Moxie's Parts-U-Needer-Speeder, but caused more harm than good when R0-GR accidentally provided the wrong parts. The group was interrogated by Lieutenant Mundu, asking what they were even thinking. Moxie admitted that she was simply eager to help the Resistance, as Smoochenbacher and the Freemakers had helped the Rebellion.[3]
Personality and traits[]
- "Ha. B-B-B-Becky Smoochenbacher?"
"You know my name? I thought you had no idea who I am. I have had a crush on you forever" - ―Zander and Smoochenbacher before they smooch
A human, Smoochenbacher had light skin and wavy blond hair with brown eyebrows. She was attracted to the mechanic Zander Freemaker but believed he did not even know she existed prior to their meeting on the Death Star II. When Zander left the Wheel, she joined the Galactic Empire but defected to join the Rebel Alliance when she discovered Zander fought for them, realizing she was on the wrong side.[1]
Equipment[]
- "Take this to the emperor at once"
- ―A stormtrooper giving Smoochenbacher the Kyber Saber
As a member of the Galactic Empire, Smoochenbacher wore the black jumpsuit of an Imperial weapons technician along with the uniform's helmet, gloves, and boots. While on the Death Star II, she was given the Kyber Saber and was commanded to deliver it to the Emperor. Instead, she brought it back to Rowan Freemaker when freeing the family.[1]

Becky Smoochenbacher was mentioned throughout The Freemaker Adventures and finally appeared in the series finale.
Becky Smoochenbacher was first mentioned in "Zander's Joyride," the third episode of the first season of the non-canon animated television series LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures,[4] released on June 22, 2016.[12] Smoochenbacher was further mentioned throughout The Freemaker Adventures[2][7] and finally appeared in the series' finale "Return of the Return of the Jedi,"[1] released on August 17, 2017.[13] Smoochenbacher was voiced by Dove Cameron.[1]
On Twitter, a fan account claimed that Smoochenbacher was the wife of Zander Freemaker and the mother of Moxie Freemaker. Keeper of the Holocron continuity database Leland Chee later commented on the post, stating that the Freemaker family branch had become a tree, and that the tree had grown bigger with the release of LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars[11] in that same year.[14]
