- "Grandfather was a miner all his days. And you've been one your whole life. Will I be a miner my whole life too?"
- ―Beilert Valance, to his father
The grandfather of the human bounty hunter Beilert Valance was a male individual who was enslaved as a miner[2] on his homeworld Chorin[1] for his whole life, like generations of the Valance family and the population of the world before him had been for centuries, until they were liberated by the Galactic Empire and became a free people who mined for profit. Sometime after Chorin's liberation, a young Valance asked his father, who was also a human miner, if he would remain a miner his whole life like his ancestors. The boy's father stated that he believed Valance himself was different and was born free, and that he belonged to the stars.[2]
