- "Hutch is gone. He was my friend. He piloted me once to a mission in the Belassar system."
- ―Princess Leia Organa
The Belassar system was located in the Sarla sector of the galaxy's Expansion Region.[1] Early during the Galactic Civil War,[3] prior to the Battle of Yavin, the Galactic Empire moved to suppress Rebel Alliance activity in the system. In response, Princess Leia Organa and the Alderaanian consular ship Tantive IV,[4] accompanied by pilot Jon "Dutch" Vander,[5] arrived to clandestinely support the Rebels.[4] From at least 12 ABY to 17 ABY, the Bellasar system fell within the borders of New Republic–controlled space.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Belassar system was first mentioned in the July 1998 young-readers story Star Wars Journal: Captive to Evil, written by Jude Watson.[5] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace, later provided the Belassar system with astrographical data, including placing it in grid square J-8, and expanded on Leia Organa's mission there,[4] as first recounted in Watson's story.[5]
