Belsavis was an astronomical object located in an intersecting portion of the Mid Rim Territories, the Senex-Juvex sectors[1] and the Western Reaches.[2] Situated at the coordinates L-18 on the Standard Galactic Grid, it was connected via hyperspace route to the astronomical object Karfeddion[1] and was located near the Thull's Shroud, a location where the Nihil marauder group operated during the High Republic Era.[4]
The Galactic Empire had a penal site at Belsavis.[3] In 5 BBY,[5] the Empire sent a group of newly convicted prisoners on the[3] planet[6] Niamos, including the human Tuck Hybecks, to Belsavis to where they would carry out their sentences.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Belsavis was introduced in the new Star Wars canon on a galactic map included in the article "Where in the Galaxy Are the Worlds of Star Wars: The Force Awakens?" by Mark Newbold, published on StarWars.com on January 29, 2016. It's name was obscured in that article, but Belvasis's complete name was introduced in[7] a map included in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game,[1] an August 2016[8] Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying boxed set.[1] Originating in Star Wars Legends continuity, Belsavis was introduced in the 1995 novel Children of the Jedi, written by Barbara Hambly.[9]
