"Last week Bier's warning timer went dead because of the high ionite concentration. He was in an aquasuit, out mapping the sea floor. Ran out of oxygen and didn't make it back to the tunnel."
―A miner, giving an example of the dangers of ionite to Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi[src]

Bier was a male individual who lived during the waning decades of the Galactic Republic. He was a miner who worked for the Offworld Mining Corporation on an offshore mine on the planet Bandomeer[2] in 44 BBY.[1] While mapping the ocean floor of Bandomeer, his aquasuit's oxygen ran out. The warning timer on his aquasuit failed to warn him of his depleting supply because of high ionite concentration, and he died before he could make it it back to the tunnel. A week later, the Phindian miner Guerra Derida and another miner told the captured Jedi Agricultural Corps member Obi-Wan Kenobi of Bier's fate as a warning of the dangers of ionite mining.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Bier was first mentioned in Jedi Apprentice: The Dark Rival, the second novel of the Jedi Apprentice series. The novel was published in 1999 and written by Jude Watson.[2]
