"Cybernetics are such a pain. Look at this: the 66K needs a novic patellar to power the joint, but BioTech only sells it in the Core and Colonies."
―Riley, in the Smuggler's Guide[src]

BioTech Industries was a company that produced cybernetic technology, including the novic patellar, which powered the joint of a 66K cybernetic leg. They sold novic patellars only in the Core Worlds and Colonies. Because of this, although she needed a novic patellar for her cybernetic leg, the smuggler Riley did not have access to one. In place of the BioTech novic patellar, she used a Lotho Junker omnislug. She recorded her frustration over the limited availability of the company's product in the pirate Maz Kanata's Smuggler's Guide.[1]

During the Galactic Civil War, a members of the Imperial Information Office used BioTech technology to become more efficient, although doing so occasionally caused mental damage.[4]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

BioTech Industries was first mentioned in canon in the first issue of the magazine series Star Wars Helmet Collection, released in 2016.[2]
